Advent - a season of preparation

The Church year begins on the First Sunday in Advent, this year December 3, 2023.  Advent is a season of preparation as we look forward to the Incarnation of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
​
​Our Sunday services in Advent will be held on December 3, 10, 17, and 24.

December 10, 2023, at 12:15 PM: Our Lady of Guadalupe
All are invited to join a Rosary and Procession in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and attend the 1:00 PM Mass en español directly afterward.


December 16, 2023, at 6:00 PM: ​Las Posadas  
​
​We will join St. James Episcopal Church for a bilingual celebration of Las Posadas, a traditional reenactment of the Holy Family’s search for an inn, plus music, food, and fun. This will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 1941 Webberville Rd., Austin, TX 78721


December 17, 2023, at 2:00 PM: The Greening of the Church
​Come help us hang wreaths, decorate windowsills, and raise the Christmas tree. Refreshments will be served.


December 17, 2023, at 6:00 PM: Christmas Caroling
We will sing Christmas carols in English and Spanish at the homes and living facilities of the ill, elderly, or disabled. The caroling event includes the choir and anyone who cares to join in. Non-singers are welcome to come and lip-sync.


December 24, 2023, at 9:30 AM: Transition to Christmas Eve  
​We will have one English language Holy Eucharist service celebrating the Fourth Sunday in Advent.  This will be a Hybrid service, in person and available online via the Zoom Meeting system, and both the service and the sermon will be recorded for replay on our web site and via Facebook.



​Christmas is a season, not just a single day.​

December 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM:   This year, December 24 is a unique day in the Church Calendar.  We observe the Fourth Sunday in Advent during the morning, and then we celebrate Christmas Eve in the afternoon and evening.
​

We will celebrate La Nochebuena at 1:00 PM with a Spanish language service.  The sermon for this service will be recorded for replay on our web site and via Facebook.


December 24, 2023 at 10:00 PM:   We will celebrate Christmas Eve with an English language service. Our Choir will present a musical prelude at 10:00 PM, and the service will begin at 10:30 PM.  This will be a Hybrid service, in person and available online via the Zoom Meeting system, and the musical prelude, the service, and the sermon will be recorded for replay on our web site and via Facebook.


December 25, 2023:   We will have a single English language Holy Eucharist service at 9:00 AM on Christmas Day.  This service will be available only in-person.  All are welcome to attend this service.


December 31, 2023:  The First Sunday after Christmas will see us return to our typical schedule of services: 

  • The Holy Eucharist, Rite I at 8:30 AM -- in person
  • The Holy Eucharist, Rite II at 11:00 AM -- Hybrid, in person and online via Zoom Meetings.
  • La Santa Eucaristia, Rito Dos, a 1:00 PM -- en persona

January 7, 2024:  January 6, The Epiphany of Our Lord, is the traditional end of the Christmas Season.  We will observe the Epiphany on the following Sunday, January 7, 2024, with our typical schedule of services.

  • The Holy Eucharist, Rite I at 8:30 AM -- in person
  • The Holy Eucharist, Rite II at 11:00 AM with Baptism -- Hybrid, in person and online via Zoom Meetings.  We will have our traditional Trifle Party after this service.
  • La Santa Eucaristia, Rito Dos, a 1:00 PM con Bautismo -- en persona.  The service will include a children’s re-enactment of the Three Kings’ search for this newborn King. After the service, Roscas, the traditional bread eaten in Latin American countries on Epiphany, will be served.
