The objective of Christian Formation for adults at St. John's is to help those who wish to continue learning about their faith to answer the great questions of life, the nature of God and spirituality, the Bible and its mysteries, and of Jesus Christ. We have a variety of offerings:
Bible Study, (English) - Sunday Morning 9:00 am - In the Parish Hall.
Bible Study, (Spanish) - Sunday Morning 12:00 pm - In the Annex
Women's Bible Study, (English) - Thursday Morning 10:00 am - In the Parish Hall.
Other Occasional Events:
COMING SOON - Sundays, June 4 - July 9, 9am-10am - Course on Christian Meditation - What is Christian meditation? How is it done? What are the Biblical and historical roots of Christian meditation? What benefits are there— practical and spiritual? Do we spend too much time talking to God and not enough time listening? Why did the Committee on Faith and Spirituality at the Lambeth Conference state that we all have the capacity for silence and contemplation—but it “always needs to be cultivated”?
These and many other questions will be considered in this six-week class. We’ll begin each class with some instructed practice in meditation and end the same way, quietly and prayerfully. In between, we’ll learn about the practical, historical, and spiritual implications of the practice of meditation in a Christian context. No book is required for the class but we will talk about some of the Christian spiritual classics that espouse the practice of meditation and will also consider several contemporary works on the subject.
